"My art is inspired by women's stories of celebration, traditions and perseverance. In my “Adornment” series I celebrate Black women and girls that embrace their natural hair. Creating styles like braids, twist and locks. In many American states these styles are deemed unprofessional and inappropriate. Women and girls can be sent home, dismissed, written up or not even hired because of their natural hair.

“The Crown Act signed into law 7/3/19 (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) Is a California law which prohibits discrimination based on hair style and hair texture by extending protection for both categories It is the first legislation passed at the state level in the United States to prohibit such discrimination.”
